Working With Accredited Installers
THE BENEFITS OF THE AIS SCHEME FOR CLIENTS
One of the main reasons we introduced the FIA Accredited Installer Scheme (AIS) was to help clients secure installations that meet their goals for specification, delivery time and budget.
To continue to meet our requirements and pass regular assessments, Accredited Installers must demonstrate that they:
- Employ experienced, competent and qualified staff
- Use recognised techniques and suitably calibrated test and inspection equipment
- Apply risk reduction procedures in line with our Risk Index on all of their installation work
Proven to be reputable and reliable
All of our AIs are proven contractors who have gone through a rigorous assessment process and made a commitment to best practice. Once accreditation is awarded, we provide ongoing support to enable them to continue to work to a high standard, through:
- Ongoing professional education and development
- Free access to the FIA Arbitration Scheme in the event of a dispute with a client
Getting the Quality Assurance You Need
CLEARLY STATE YOUR REQUIRMENTS IN YOUR COMMUNICATIONS WITH INSTALLERS
We recommend you copy and past one of the following paragraphs of text into any contractual documents or communications, where you specify your requirements. The first is to obtain a basic quality assurance when dealing with any installer, while the second should be used when communicating with Accredited Installers for an enhanced level of assurance.
BASIC QUALITY ASSURANCE FOR ALL INSTALLERS
“This technical specification requires that the installation and testing of optical fibre cabling is undertaken by a member of the FIA who commits to applying the elements of the FIA Risk Index available here which support the application of BS6701 and BS EN 50174 series standards.”
ENHANCED ASSURANCE FOR ACCREDITED INSTALLERS
“This technical specification requires that the installation and testing of optical fibre cabling is undertaken by a member of the Fibreoptic Industry Association who is also an Accredited Installer under the Accredited Installer Scheme.”
What Should You Do if Something Goes Wrong?
As a client of an FIA Accredited Installer, you can expect a high standard of service and workmanship. In the unlikely event that you don't, you can ask the FIA for help in resolving a dispute.
All AIs can use the FIA Arbitration Scheme to resolve any disputes that may arise and this access extends to their clients.
The success of the scheme relies on the co-operation and involvement of all parties, so we strongly encourage clients to report any non-compliances or where they feel standards have fallen short.
